Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say early analysis show the substance was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.
An important political figure commented the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be solved promptly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
