Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the main group to embark on their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team understands precisely where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in the powerful family could assist the team reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can expect discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
