The much-anticipated Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on Prime Video this week, and audience theories has been intense.
Season 1 introduces a large cast of characters residing in Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other with songs detailing their conflicts, and builds tense rivalries and emotional bonds that drive fan obsession.
The community's expectations for the new season vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with audience demands as the main goal," the creator commented earlier this year. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season progresses, and how many of what they're waiting for happens this season.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some incredible reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people make a bingo card about the new season," she says. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on the streaming service on October 29.
